In my second video review this week, I went through the SwapRight.com website. They have a bit better user interface than Barterian did, the option of logging in with Facebook Connect, and an easier sign up process, but have the same problems that most of these barter startups have: no tools for hooking people up, no great way to search for what you want, and nothing to help you get a transaction underway. Overall they get a C+ only because I like the look and feel better. Still just as difficult to use as Barterian.

Check it out.

The logo is nice, the interface is stark and boring, the usability factor is very low. I gave them a C overall because they are just average in the scale of what internet barter has become. Not great. Not terribly useful. Again lacking in basic tools to help people find things they need.

New internet barter exchange, BarterSphere.com, does not live up to the initial goodness I thought it would have. First, they made me listen to music when I went to the home page, which just makes me mad. Then, they asked for three dozen different pieces of information regarding my business, and a W-9 form. Pretty intense for an internet barter site.

The kicker? The sign up form didn’t work. I couldn’t even finish signing up.

The look and feel is good, the site isn’t one of the best I’ve seen, but isn’t terrible. But if the sign up form doesn’t work, how are you going to generate new members?

The official BNW first run rating? D-

In a video review today, I went through the Emerio Exchange.com site at length. See the video below for more details, but the gist of the experience is this: someone wanted to put up a barter website, bought a URL that had nothing to do with barter, and then put up a semi-functioning website with less style than Google. The interface is clunky, the system is poorly designed and thought out, and there is no easy way to find things you want. The only thing that Emerio did right is make signing up a cinch.

VeggieTrader.com is a new online startup dedicated to the free spread of home grown produce. The idea is to trade what excess produce you may have for the produce that you want. According to the site, ”

We believe a bonanza of fruits, vegetables, fresh herbs and more are found right in your own backyard—and your neighbors’ yard too.

It’s local, affordable and sustainable, but we’ve noticed a lot of it goes to waste. You plant too many tomatoes, or your plum tree has a bumper crop, most of which is enjoyed by the sidewalk and the grass…

So we’ve launched Veggie Trader – a free resource for bringing good food and good people together.

Wish you could turn your excess plums into lemons, or maybe even a little cash? Use this site to find neighbors to swap with or sell your excess produce to. Or if you specialize in growing tomatoes, find neighbors who specialize in other produce and form networks to share in the variety. Even if you don’t have a garden, Veggie Trader is your place for finding local food near you.

See my video review of the site below:

Plan on seeing more of these in the future. Asset Fair is an exchange system for property, services, and debt. From their site:

In today’s world of financial challenges, it makes sense to use the barter (cash-free) exchange system – the earliest form of trading – when looking to dispose of or acquire a new asset. While it may be difficult to find a cash buyer for your property, plane, yacht or other high-end assets, there may be owners of other assets who would wish to trade their asset for yours. This scenario offers numerous advantages. You spread your leverage in different forms of assets, you acquire that toy or property you have longed for and you minimize your tax impact. You may even end up with some cash or debt relief – after all, cash is just another form of asset.

ASSETFAIR is the universal asset platform and your ultimate tool through which you can evaluate and manage your portfolio of possessions.

The first time I attempted to register for superfluid.biz, the server timed out…let’s see how it goes this time.

Superfluid.biz is a traditional style barter exchange, with an online flavor. They call their barter dollars Quids.

This time when I registered, it gave me notice that I would be sent a confirmation email. This is a big step forward from my last experience…

After confirming my account, I was taken to a list of top rated superfluid members, all of which are in the media industry, and mostly in Pennsylvania.

My account showed that I needed to complete a profile, that I could add a new offering, and my account balances and information. I was surprised to see, up at the top of my screen, that I had Q400 available to spend.

Superfluid’s system automatically gives you Q200 to spend in their system, with a Q200 credit line. My fiscally-conservative soul doesn’t think these guys are taking the value of their dollar seriously when they give it away, but it is probably a great marketing gimmick, and it might get some people spending out of the gate.

Superfluid takes the IRS requirements seriously, as any barter exchange should, and requires that new members submit a W-9 online before posting any kind of offering.

To make things interesting, I’m posting an ad for ads on our site, email sponsorships. Superfluid also, “for tax purposes”, asks for minimum dollar cost and max dollar cost of the item you are offering. I’m assuming that they are attempting to undervalue your sale for tax purposes…

I accidentally hit return when I was entering tags for the item and was taken back to my account page…but the back button worked nicely and I was able to get back to my original ad info…but then the system wouldn’t let me post the same item twice. Apparently my first ad went through.

Nowhere in the process does the system outline any fees, but digging in to the FAQ section, apparently Superfluid plans on or is currently charging an annual membership fee. It’s not very clear.

The “offering” posted nicely. We’ll see if I get any action on it.

The interface is quick, the system works nicely, posting is fairly easy, and the look and feel is current. We’ll see if it is effective on a national level. The current offerings are meager.

Rating: B+
