Chandigarh, the “city beautiful”, is the first planned city of modern India. Be fascinated by the creativity of Rock Garden, serenity of its lake, beauty of Rose Garden and the sheer vibrancy of Chandigarh’s city centre. Take a half day or full day city tour from Baddi to explore all that the city of Chandigarh has to offer.
Chandigarh is a very modern city with a large number of decent lounge bars and pubs. The best part is that most of the pubs are pretty evenly dispersed in the city, although sector 17 has a few more. Pubs like “Down Under” are a hit among the youngsters because of the good food and alcohol. You can also try the Lava Pub in the Taj Chandigarh, with lava lumps of all sizes lying around the place. A couple of other favorite chill-out zones include “The Nightclub” and “Rendezvous Bar and Nightclub.”
The Sukhna Lake is a large man-made lake located close to the Rock Garden at Chandigarh. The three km squared lake is the favored picnic spot of Chandigarh families. Paddle boats can be hired at the boating club attached to the lake. There are a few shops located within the lake complex that sell souvenirs and handicrafts. There is also a cafe run by Chandigarh Tourism that serves good South Indian and Continental snacks.
Baddi in the Solon district of Himachal Pradesh is emerging as the pharmaceutical industry capital of India. More than half of India’s pharmaceutical production, mainly formulations, would originate from Himachal Pradesh in few years as 200 odd medium and large-scale units are coming up in and around Baddi.
The major attractions for investors included 100 per cent outright excise duty exemption for a period of ten years from the date of commencement of commercial production (the past budget stipulated it to industries starting on or before 31st March 2007), 100 per cent income tax exemption for an initial period of five years and thereafter 30 per cent for companies for a further period of five years, capital investment subsidy of 15 per cent on plant and machinery subject to a ceiling of Rs 30 lakhs, applicable also to existing units.
The schemes are also available for existing units going in for expansions. The identified thrust sectors included non-polluting pharma and herbal products. Besides, the State Government also announced a slew of attractive investment schemes, including single window clearance for projects.
