ICON International, Inc., a corporate barter company, was voted one of the top ten places to work in the large company category in Best Places to work in Connecticut for 2014.
This survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in Connecticut, benefitting the state’s economy, workforce and businesses. The program was created by the Hartford Business Journal Best Companies Group and sponsored by The Hooker & Holcombe Companies.
“We are proud to have made this list for the seventh consecutive year,” says Richard Upton, executive vice president of operations at ICON International. “Our people drive the growth of our business. Together we have built ICON into what it is today—we continue to hire and retain the best talent in CT.”
ICON competed against many other companies statewide for the position. The Best Companies to Work for in CT are selected based on a stringent two-part employee survey process conducted by a third party. The first part of the survey consisted of an evaluation of each nominated company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems and demographics. The second part was designed to measure employee experience. The combined scores determined the top companies and the final ranking.
ICON scored high marks in the following categories: (1) organization philosophy (2) individual employee opinion and (3) team infrastructure. Employees also expressed gratification with the company’s strong leadership, compensation and benefits, support for work-life balance, communication practices and corporate citizenship.
When asked about the chances of obtaining a position at ICON, Dawn Montelione, vice president of human resources, responded, “Teamwork and entrepreneurialism form the basis of our culture here at ICON; it is one of the reasons we have been so successful. However, our growth requires us to continually search for outstanding sales and media talent.”
