Modern barter got a good look from StLToday.com.

Michael Allton, who runs a website design company out of his home in Chesterfield, is saving thousands of dollars on his wedding in October by bartering his web services for miniature cakes, desserts and a wedding planner he found through Craigslist.
Larry Bachman, manager of Bachman Auto Glass, repairs 30 to 40 windshields a month in exchange for radio and print advertising as well as Rams and Cardinals tickets that he gives to clients.
And Dale Schotte, owner of Park Avenue Coffee in Lafayette Square, has swapped his gooey butter cakes for new labels to rebrand his online coffee and baked good businesses.

Other then the following part from the article: one of the more positive articles I’ve seen on barter in a long time. One of the VERY FEW.

Once again…..we had to spoil a perfect game with quotes like those taken from the story I’ve referenced below:
    ________________________________________________

“But these days, he is seeing a big spike in people coming into the exchange because they are realizing that bartering can help them stay afloat and move ahead during the tough economic times, he said.

“We’re seeing people we dealt with many, many years ago,” he said. “They left when business got really good. But now they are calling us back.”

Once again, however, you live and die by the sword.

Spinning barter for the down trodden and those life is beating up works well now……with clients who fit that demographic.

But it will NEVER WORK with many others who could use barter as a profit stream……in good times and bad….and those in high tax brackets.

Don’t believe me? I quoting the dude who said it! Why can’t barter be positioned for the affluent? HINT: stop selling them Barter and start selling them BENEFITS…LIKE COOL STUFF THAT THEY CAN GET FOR LESS THEN WHAT THEY WOULD PAY FOR CASH.

Even rich people like a bargain!

The current positioning of this industry…..does little to attract upper tax bracket entrepreneurs…because after all…..that would be something “new and different” and barter isn’t famous for “change.”

THERE IS NO REASON PEOPLE SHOULD LEAVE BARTER JUST BECAUSE THE ECONOMY IS STRONG…..AND THIS INDUSTRY BETTER FIGURE OUT A WAY TO SPIN BARTER IN A GOOD ECONOMY AS WELL AS THEY’VE MANAGED TO SPIN IT…..IN A POOR ONE.
