As part of my morning ritual I go out and look for anything barter specific all over the internet. My search takes me to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Bing, the Dmoz, and more than one industry specific website. I usually sift through the new information and try to find something interesting and relevant for the barter industry, and post it here, as you know. In the past, I’ve written about the difficulty of direct trades. In video reviews I have seriously chastized internet barter sites for not making it easy to find things to trade for and not displaying user content well. I’ve also spent time and energy watching dozens of videos that weren’t worth the five minutes I spent watching them, less even than the time it took to make the video itself.

Today I found a video that I thought for sure was going to waste my time. Instead, I found a part-touching, part-humourous video. Instead of being another how-to or instructional video on the virtues or uses of barter, the video shows people from all over the world giving and receiving items, some of them less than trinkets but fun nonetheless, one at a time. In one segment, the Kamasutra is passed on. In another a map of Sao Paolo. The cumulative effect is a grand glimpse in to the character of the people of the world, and a very real sense of the interdependence the world contains.

Check it out…

A big shout to Socialter.fr for putting together the video.
