The World Chamber of Commerce (WCC)’s International Hero Awards Ceremony was a memorable event at the Woodruff Arts Center where leaders of the community provided inspirational speeches to those in the audience. The WCC presented the prestigious WCC International Hero Award to Mayor Kasim Reed; President of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe; Ambassador Andrew Young; Ambassador Charles Shapiro; Dean of the Consular Corps of Georgia and Consul General of Germany, Lutz Gorgens; Consul General of the United Kingdom, Annabelle Malins; Mayor of Auburn, Linda Blechinger; Mark Becker, President of Georgia State University; Dr. John Hardman, President of the Carter Center; William Pate, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau; Louis Miller, General Manager Atlanta International Airport; Dr. Helene Gayle, President and CEO of CARE; Consul of Denmark, Christopher Smith, and Phil Bolton, Publisher of Global Atlanta.
Southern Barter Club currency was used to acquire these customized glass awards for over a dozen leaders. In addition the WCC used their trade account with SBC for printing, signage, photography and media coverage at the event. Many local businesses were able to attend the awards event with the ability to purchase the tickets on trade. Most impressive was how Southern Barter Club secured the stay of former President of Columbia, Alvaro Uribe, and arranged payment in 100% barter currency for his dignitary protection throughout his entire visit to Atlanta as well as limousine services to/from airport and throughout his stay in Atlanta.
